Winter Wedding at The Marquis, Suffolk - Jessie + Ryan
With spring just around the corner, it feels like a good time to look back at Jessie and Ryan’s December wedding at The Marquis.
As a Suffolk wedding photographer, I always appreciate winter weddings for their slower pace and softer light. Jessie and Ryan’s day was a perfect example of how relaxed and meaningful a small celebration can be.
An Australian Couple, A Suffolk Celebration
When Jessie first got in touch, her emails were landing in my inbox at around 3am. It didn’t take long to realise why — she and Ryan live in Australia with their little girl. They had legally married there earlier in the year but planned a UK ceremony in Suffolk over Christmas so they could celebrate properly with family and friends.
Travelling from 25°C sunshine to a very crisp 5°C English winter is quite the adjustment, but they took it all in their stride.
A First Look in the Winter Air
Before the ceremony, they chose to have a first look outside in the gardens. Despite the temperature, they were completely up for it — and winter light in Suffolk is always worth stepping out for. The low sun and muted tones made for clean, natural portraits without needing to wander far.
Why The Marquis Works So Well for Weddings
The Marquis is one of those venues that feels considered in every detail. The gardens are beautifully kept, the interiors are understated and elegant, and the views across the Brett Valley give you space and light in every direction. Even in December, it doesn’t feel closed in or limited.
From a photography perspective, it’s a versatile venue — sheltered spots for colder days, neutral backdrops that keep images timeless, and staff who are consistently organised and helpful, which makes the whole day run smoothly.
A Relaxed Winter Wedding in Suffolk
Jessie and Ryan’s ceremony was intimate and focused on what mattered most: being home, surrounded by the people closest to them. Winter weddings often have a calmness to them, and this one certainly did.
I’ll be back at The Marquis again soon, and it’s always a venue I’m pleased to return to. If you’re planning a wedding there and looking for natural, relaxed photography that reflects the day as it really felt, I’d love to hear from you.
